Celebrating its 11th year in 2026, the Madison Reading Project (MRP) champions literacy as a fundamental human right.
Guided by the motto “everyone deserves to see themselves as a reader,” MRP provides high-quality books and resources to children ages zero to 18, caregivers and educators.
What distinguishes MRP is its trailblazing personalization. Unlike national programs, MRP lets children select their own books.
Staff meticulously curate selections based on primary languages, cultural celebrations and personal interests, ensuring every child feels valued.
MRP operates five core programs informed by community needs, partnering with over 200 organizations annually. Their outreach includes two Big Red Reading Buses, one being ADA-accessible so that book joy and discovery are possible at any location across the county. Whether through volunteering, donating or joining a committee, local supporters are invited to help MRP inspire thousands of young readers. Visit their website to get involved.
