Kaleem Caire knows what it means to overcome. Growing up on the south side of Madison without either of his parents, he barely graduated high school and saw his friends slip through the cracks.
After serving in the U.S. Navy and transferring back home to UW-Madison, his journey fighting for equitable education began when he served as the Minority Student Achievement Consultant for the WI Department of Public Instruction. This had him asking: “How do we create schools where every child, regardless of race or zip code, can discover their gifts and reach their full potential?” One City Schools was his answer.
Serving children aged three months through eighth grade, they provide longer school days, year-round calendars, two teachers per classroom and a two-generation approach to strengthen families. Kaleem also works to prepare educators to teach all children, helps parents to be engaged in their child’s learning and helps chart new improvements for the American education system.
