Ja’ Malik is the Artistic Director of Madison Ballet, a choreographer and visionary leader whose work bridges the traditions of classical ballet with bold contemporary expression. A former professional dancer with a 25-year performance career, he has danced with companies including North Carolina Dance Theater, Ballet Hispanico & BalletX, bringing a rich range of classical and modern influences to his artistic voice.
Trained at the Joffrey Ballet School and holding a BFA from The New School, Ja’ Malik has created original works for companies across the country. His choreography is known for its athleticism, emotional clarity and commitment to elevating diverse voices on stage. Since assuming the role of Artistic Director in 2022, he has been reimagining what ballet can be for Madison and beyond, expanding access, deepening community connection and championing new narratives. He is also the founder of Ballet Boy Productions, a nonprofit dedicated to creating pathways for young men of color in dance.
