Small Bites Catering & Cooking Events: Cynthia Hyett with BusyButternut and Clarify Kitchen

BusyButternut Catering was built on the belief that food and hospitality have a higher purpose.

Founder Cindy Hyett, a third-generation Napervillian, is deeply rooted in the community and passionate about caring for people through thoughtful culinary experiences. Her mission is simple but meaningful: “We turn ingredients into impact.”

BusyButternut is a boutique luxury catering company specializing in appetizer-only small bites and handhelds.

The company focuses on events with fewer than 100 guests, offering everything from simple delivery to full-service catering and bartending. Known for her mini-morsel masterpieces, Hyett creates elevated, memorable menus that bring people together in a warm, welcoming way.

That same spirit led to the opening of Clarify Kitchen, a culinary discovery center on Quincy Avenue and the natural evolution of Hyett’s lifelong love of food, travel and teaching. Her journey has taken her from watching PBS cooking shows as a child to working in Ireland, Dubai, Singapore, and Australia, then training at Le Cordon Bleu and serving as a private yacht chef.

But it was the pull of community and education that brought her home. Clarify Kitchen was created to demystify cooking, refine technique and help people see food with new clarity. The space offers hands-on classes, date nights, wine tastings, chef demonstrations and summer camps for kids. It is also available for private events, often paired with BusyButternut catering.

Together, BusyButternut and Clarify Kitchen reflect Hyett’s commitment to service, creativity and connection — proving that when food is prepared with purpose and shared with others, it becomes something far more meaningful than a meal.
