Pet Boarding: Alyssa Statz with Barks on Bourbon

Alyssa Statz, owner of Barks on Bourbon, has dedicated her life to the well-being of animals. As a child, her household was filled with a variety of pets, ranging from dogs and cats to fish, frogs and even pet rats.

In 2016, Statz embarked on a journey to turn her love of animals into a full-time career. She found the perfect location in Cross Plains to establish her business, Barks on Bourbon. The full-service boarding facility officially opened in 2018. What started with three employees has grown into a thriving business and dedicated team of twelve.

Overlooking the Ice Age Trail and Black Earth Creek, Barks on Bourbon offers a peaceful, comfortable and secure atmosphere for its canine guests, with luxury suites and spacious kennels. The staff customizes each dog’s stay to meet individual needs, activity level and personality. Dogs are let out six to eight times throughout the day to play with other dogs or on their own. Manager Grace Nesheim has made it her mission to ensure that every dog’s visit is a very positive experience. She will go above and beyond to accommodate any special requests.

Barks on Bourbon has earned widespread recognition for its exceptional service. Since 2022, the business has maintained an A+ accreditation from the Better Business Bureau and is a Neighborhood Favorite on the Nextdoor App.

Barks on Bourbon is deeply involved in the community, actively participating in the Cross Plains and Mazomanie Chambers of Commerce and sponsoring local events. It hosted the 2024 Madison area Radiothon “Kibble 4 A Cause,” an event supporting pet rescues and shelters.

Barks on Bourbon has also made a significant impact on dog rescue and rehoming efforts. The staff has rescued and cared for numerous dogs, both locally and from distant locations such as Mississippi, ensuring they find safe and loving forever homes.
